From this point of view came the need for HDR mode, and of course it has types that we will mention later, with which multiple exposures can be used at the same time, after that, simultaneous processing arises aimed at increasing the range of colors that we talked about and the contrast ratio, and the result is images that are closer to reality.

 

If we compare the “SDR” and “HDR” TV screens, the latter has the ability to show about 10 times the brightness of the first, and if we speak in the language of bits and numbers, the SDR screens give us 8-bit color while producing up to 256 colors per color or About 16.7 million different colors, as for HDR, it uses at least 10-bit color, and this means producing more than a billion colors, meaning 1, along with nine color zeros !!

 

And before completing this paragraph, it should be noted that not all TVs that support HDR technology are coming in the same quality, as there are some factors that govern this thing, on top of which is the resolution, the range of brightness and the next HDR standard or that the TV supports.

Third: the types of HDR

 

As we have mentioned more than once, HDR technology on TVs comes in more than one type, namely “HDR 10, HDR 10 Plus and Dolby Vision”, with the first type being the most common among the different TV screens, and in detail the capabilities of each type.

1. HDR 10

The first type, which is the most present on most TV screens, and with it the screen manufacturer will not have to pay anything for using this format as it is also an open source format, in addition to this, this type uses static metadata, and since it is fixed, this means that it includes One basis does not change for light levels, whether bright or low, and this thing may cause problems in the scenes presented by adopting the scene as too bright or too dark, which affects the rest of the scenes.

2. HDR 10 Plus or HDR 10+

Certainly, this type is better than the first type with static metadata, and it is coming with higher brightness and contrast levels, not to mention that it uses dynamic metadata, and this is very cool by showing all scenes and switching from one shot to another without affecting the rest of the scene, in the end, you will be The resolution is much stronger than HDR 10, and although it is completely free of any licenses, that is, it is open source, there are few broadcast services and TVs that support this format.

3. Dolby Vision

The third and last type, which represents a genius in the image output, and since it is developed by Dolby, it needs a license, meaning payment for the use of screen manufacturers for this format, and perhaps the similarity between it and HDR 10+ is that both of them use dynamic metadata, but with Dolby Vision The screen will be brighter, and most importantly, with Dolby Vision, you will get its advantages, regardless of how bright the TV screen is.

 

Important note: If you have a screen with Dolby Vision, it supports HDR10 + and HDR 10, and if you have a screen that supports HDR 10+, it supports HDR 10 without Dolby Vision.
